The first game that got me to dive straight into gaming on my CRT’s (outside of my childhood titles) was the original Silent Hill. This was a title released back in February 1999, barely predating my own birth. Playing this title was such a fun horror and puzzle experience to immerse into.

The video game was played off and on from July 1st to August 28th 2026. During this period, I realized how much I had been enjoying casually playing the original Playstation 1 catalog of games. I got very distracted during this timeframe.
Graphics wise I thought they looked really good for a 1999 game! This one in particular has quite a bit of charm with the way it looks. The sounds of the game are super eerie and really keep you on the edge of your seat.
The gameplay is fairly straightforward. You get plopped into Silent Hill after a car crash with your daughter (Cheryll) and you have to explore the town to find her. Meanwhile, there are these unexplained instances where you are phased into some sort of nightmare. The whole game is split into different segments to explore depending on where you are at in the story. The hospital and the school were my favorite to explore!
The combat in the game was also pretty simple. You start with a basic knife for melee, and a handgun given to you by a cop. You have to be really careful though because bullets are limited and scarce around the map. You eventually get other melee weapons and find different assortment of guns (like the shotgun and hunting rifle). The shotgun was my favorite weapon to use.

The story was a little confusing for me to wrap around at first but everything started clicking more towards the end of the game. I also watched some YouTube videos explaining the store a little more which helped quite a bit.
The game also had boss battles too! They weren’t super intense but each of them brought some sort of unique feeling with music and the scenery.
This was my first play through ever and I was trying to soak in the controls and play on my own free time, so difficulty was only set to easy.
I’m very much looking forward to being able to replay this game again in the future!
