The Gears of War games have always been something I’ve wanted to play. It’s something that takes place in an alternate timeline where ‘E-Day’ takes place, a catastrophic event that changes humanity forever. These alien like creatures arise from the depths of the Earth to take over the surface world.

Specifically Gears of War Reloaded is a new remastered version of the original title that released back on the Xbox 360 during the 2000’s. This title was special because it marked the first time a Gears of War game was released on the Playstation too.
I played this game completely via online co-op and it was such a great first ‘Gears’ game to play.
The story through you into the middle of the future. Player 1 assumes the role of a character named Marcus and player 2 is someone named Dom. Together you regroup with your squad and are trying to make your way through a devastated city to succeed in your mission to destroy the Locust horde.

There’s one main antagonist who murders one of your squad early on the game, cementing your need from revenge early on. Eventually you get a boss fight with him at the very end of the game (on a high speed moving train) as he tries to blot out the sky.
The actually gameplay felt super smooth and nice in Reloaded. I specifically played through Xbox Game Pass on my desktop, where I could access the higher fps/refresh rates. A nice surprise was that it also supported ultra wide support, giving me a large viewing experience during game play.
I really enjoyed the change in pace for the shooting and combat mechanics. The staple of these games is the weapon called the ‘Lancer’, which is an automatic machine gun with a chainsaw attached under the barrel. It was always fun being in a situation to where I could use this feature against an evil locust. Next to the Lancer, the shotgun was a very fun weapon to use too.
The games are known for being very bloody and gory. The remastered/reloaded aspect did not hold back on giving you a show if you had to use the previously mentioned chainsaw, or if you had to toss a grenade into a crowd.

Fresh off of playing this game, I’m looking forward to playing through the rest of the titles in the series.
